Masterpiece London is fast making an impact on the world of art and antiques. Currently taking place in London until 6th July, this event offers a wealth of opportunity to browse and buy art, antiques and design, whether you’re a serious collector or an interested visitor. The fair has been described as a rising star in the world of art and design, one of the most innovative ventures for those with an interest in art and antiques – and certainly one of the most glamorous ways to explore collectibles.
A goldmine of art
The works on show at Masterpiece offer a wealth of insight into the art world with pieces that span 5,000 years of art history going back to antiquity. Drawn from more than 150 leading galleries from all over the world, these pieces provide a unique opportunity to buy museum quality art, antiques and design with exceptional provenance – some of the best and most exciting on the market. The high quality, often historic, nature of what is on offer also makes this a fascinating opportunity for those who are looking to explore art history and to learn about the various styles and skills that have established the art world as it is today.
The Royal Hospital Chelsea
Masterpiece takes place at the prestigious Royal Hospital Chelsea, which was founded in 1682 by King Charles II. This iconic London location is home to the Chelsea Pensioners – it was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and is well worth a visit in its own right. The grounds are renowned for being particularly beautiful – the perfect place to wander and ponder the incredible works of art that are on show inside the Masterpiece fair.
The Royal Hospital Chelsea is just a short walk from Sloane Square and connected to the rest of London via both bus and Underground (however, there is no parking available in the immediate area). About Town Carriages offer a shuttle service between Masterpiece and various locations, such as Sotheby’s and the Sloane Square Hotel. Masterpiece is open from 11am until 9pm for the duration of its stay at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, other than 2-3 July when it will shut at 6pm.
See and do
There are various on-topic presentations and discussions taking place throughout Masterpiece that will be of interest to both collectors and those visiting with a curiosity about art and art history. There are daily highlights tours for those who are looking for guidance to help them explore, as well as artist talks and master classes on delicious topics such as champagne (champagne tasting included). Visitors can also hear a Steinway piano recital and learn about specific creative periods, such as Modern Indian Art.
Drink and dine
When it comes to the food and drink you can expect the same exceptional standards across the board. Institutions such as The Mount Street Deli, Caprice and The Ivy offer dining packages as part of the Masterpiece experience and there is a Perrier-Jouët Champagne Bar, which provides a range of cuveés including Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque and Belle Époque Rosé.
